Hello, we are Normally - a pioneering design, research and technology studio. We bring Artificial Intelligence to the augmentation, innovation and transformation of products and services for the benefit of people, society and the planet.

This is a great opportunity to join Normally at an exciting time. We are based in Shoreditch, London, and we work internationally with clients including IKEA, Yohana, Google and the NHS.

We are currently looking for a Creative Developer who will work closely with the rest of our team and participate in design, research and prototyping. In this role, you will help us design how people interact with data, products and services.

We are looking for a designer-developer with 1-4 years of experience who has a blend of both creative coding skills and product design thinking.

What you will work on

We work across a broad range of domains, such as wellbeing and sustainability, to support our clients in their digital transformation journeys. Our approach often leads to the discovery of new products and services and opportunities to improve existing ones.

You will bring your design understanding to projects and the studio, to solve complex challenges and explore new territories.

What you will be expected to do

  • Work iteratively and seek feedback and direction: incorporate feedback in your work early and often, use initiative and discernment to best explore and solve design problems.
  • Describe user journeys: help map user journeys and workflows, represent the stories, voices and needs of users based on insights from user research and data.
  • Bring ideas to life: help create sketches, mock-ups, designs and prototypes at different levels of fidelity to make ideas tangible for the team, our clients and yourself.
  • Communicate clearly: explain and evidence your design decisions and practice simplifying complex concepts, using simple, non-technical and jargon-free language.
  • Help balance priorities: by helping to identify essential user needs and make decisions based on balancing those with business needs and technological feasibility.
  • Have an interest in emerging technology:  be curious and have an interest in data and AI and be inquisitive about their potential and impact.
  • Bring awareness of design best practices, for interface design, usability, accessibility or ethics.

You should have knowledge of or experience using some of the following tech

  • Javascript/HTML/CSS – important and ideally at an advanced level
  • Front-end tech e.g. Vue/Nuxt, React/Next, Svelte
  • Node.js
  • Interacting with LLMs such as GPT-4 and Claude
  • Serverless functions e.g. Lambda, Firebase Functions, Cloudflare Workers
  • Databases e.g. Firebase, SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL
  • Figma

  • Salary: £25k - £45k
  • Reporting to our Design and Technology Directors
  • Permanent full-time position - 4 days a week, 32 hours
  • We are flexible hybrid working between our homes and our Shoreditch studio. You should be able to access our studio when required.
